More Information

The Championship

Forest Hills Country Club officially opened the Clubhouse and the 18-hole course called “The Championship” in December 1964. The original course architect was Chick Adams but the course was later fine tuned by golf course designers Dick Nugent and Keith Foster. As recently as 2011, the greens were re-seeded with the new Bentgrass variety A1A4 and an advanced drainage system was installed. These upgrades provide an ideal putting surface that is very weather tolerant for the Midwest temperature fluctuations. In the winter of 2017-18, the bunkers were renovated to include the Premier White™ Course Sand adding the perfect play that both our golfers and our maintenance team desire.

The Valley

Forest Hills Country Club is also home to a 9 hole course referred to as “The Valley.” This course, designed by Keith Foster, is ideal for the beginner golfer as it offers beautiful multi-tiered greens, wide open fairways and is a great practice area for the low handicappers. This is an executive layout, not a Par 3 course, making it the ideal course to get in a quick round of golf. The Valley course is the starting point for our highly regarded Junior Golf program that boasts a participation rate of close to 300 children each year.

Forest Hills Country Club has hosted several tournaments of note, including the LPGA Heartland/Michelob Light Classic from 1994-1999, the 2001 USGA Junior Amateur Qualifier, 2004 US Senior Amateur Qualifier, 2005 US Open Qualifier, 2006 US Amateur Qualifier, 2008 US Senior Women's Qualifier, 2013 US Mid-Am Qualifier and various other regional and local golf events.

Dutch Harrison

Coming out of Arkansas, Dutch Harrison was one of the better players on tour for over two decades. A member of the 1947, 1949 and 1951 Ryder Cup teams, he garnered 25 professional wins from 1930-1954. Lured to Old Warson Country Club for a Head Pro position in 1954, he left in 1960 for a brief stint at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, only to return to St. Louis in 1964 as the Head Pro at the new Forest Hills Country Club, where he remained through 1974. Dutch was brought to the Club by the founding fathers because of his acclaimed golfing talents and his ability to teach his skills in a wonderful manner.  Dutch Harrison was the first Golf Professional at the Club and during his watch as the Forest Hills Golf Pro, it was not uncommon to see a PGA Touring Professional on the course taking lessons from him.

After becoming the Head Golf Pro at the Club, and after retiring from a very successful career with the PGA Pro Tour, Dutch continued to compete in the PGA circuit during the winter months, winning his last U. S. Senior Open Tournament in 1966.
